Develop your skills at your pace
Rupert Hugh Emerson, a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster, is able to offer own boat tuition. Instead of being constrained by a conventional course, this is an opportunity to learn the skills you need for your sailing.
This also makes the location flexible. From Blakeney Harbour in Norfolk to the Cleddau Estuary in Wales, from Rye Harbour in Kent to the Hebrides in Scotland, Rupert can help.
Perhaps you are not confident with your navigation skills and you want a patient, guiding hand to help you put theory into practice safely. Night sailing may seem rather daunting and you would like to develop some confidence. Or perhaps you have an awkward berth or mooring.
Maybe you have a new yacht and you simply want to take it out with someone who will keep you out of trouble while you gain experience with the controls and the instruments.
Perhaps you have a bilge keeler and you want to learn to dry out on sand or mud. Or maybe you have a long keeler and you have trouble manoeuvering.
Or perhaps you want to visit a difficult harbour for the first time.
The great thing about own boat tuition is that you can keep practising something until you get it right. There are also people who learn fast and find courses hold them back. They are hungry for knowledge and experience and only by having one to one input can they achieve quickly. The pace and the content is up to you. Weather and tides are the only limitations.
The cost is £105 for a day (up to ten hours) or £75 for a half day (up to five hours) plus travel expenses. I am based near Guildford and so travel expenses are around £20 in Kent, Sussex and Hampshire, rising to £30 for Dorset and Essex. I am happy to travel almost anywhere, including abroad, but the cost does rise of course.
